 Nathan C. Pettit } 
State of Florida } Know all men by these presents that whereas Legacy Brown
Alachua County   } of above State and County is indebted to Nathan C. Pettit
of the same State and County in the sum of Two Hundred forty one 66/100 dollars 
which the said sum is covenanted to be paid by a certain promissory note bear
ing date February 2nd 1887 and for the said sum of Two Hundred forty one
66/100 dollars bearing interest at the rate of ten per cent per annum until fully
paid, Now therefore to better secure the payment of said Note and interest
as Expressed therein I do by these presents grant bargain sell and Convey 
unto the Said Nathan C. Pettit his heirs and assigns all my right title 
interest and Claim of in and to all Crops of whatsoever Species Kind or 
description now growing or which may hereafter be planted grown or gathered 
by me or for me or for my benefit on or off of any and all lands in 
Alachua County Florida. Also the following described property to wit
One Grey Horse named "Charley" about twelve years old To have and 
to hold all and Singular the crops lands and personal property above bargain
ed and Sold unto the said Nathan C. Pettit his heirs Executors adminis
trators and assigns forever. Provided nevertheless that if the said Legacy
Brown should well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the Said 
Nathan C. Pettit the full amount of said note together with the interest 
according to its tenor and effect then this instrument to be void, else 
to remain in full force and virtue. And it is hereby further agreed 
that should it become necessary to enforce this instrument by legal 
proceedings the said Legacy Brown will pay therefor all attorneys fees and
Expenses. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed 
my seal this Second day of February AD 1887
