F.H. Butler & Co }
State of Florida } Know all men by these presents, That whereas
Alachua County   } John Roberts of the above State and County is indebted
to F.H. Butler & Co of the same State and Levy County in the sum
of Twenty Five dollars which said sum is covenanted to be paid
by a certain promissory note bearing date March 5th 1887 payable
Nov 1st 1887 and for the said sum of Twenty Five dollars.
Now therefore to better secure the payment of said note as expressed
therein I do by these presents grant bargain sell and Convey unto the said
F.H. Butler & Co their heirs and assigns all my right title interest and
Claim of in and to all Crops of whatsoever Species Kind or description
now growing or which may hereafter be planted grown or gathered by
me or for me or for my benefit on or off of any and all lands in
Alachua County Florida, Also the following described property to wit:
One Bay mare 12 Years old named "Fan" also Fifteen head of Cattle
more or less and the increase, marked sharp in one ear, upper slope
in the other Branded G. To have and to Hold all and Singular
the Crops lands and personal property above bargained and sold unto
the said F.H. Butler & Co their Executors administrators and assigns for
ever, Provided nevertheless that if the said John Roberts should well
and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said F.H. Butler & Co the
full amount of said note according to its tenor and effect then this
instrument to be void else to remain in full force and virtue
And it is hereby further agreed that should it become necessary to
enforce this instrument by legal proceedings the said John Roberts
will pay therefor all attorneys fees and expenses. In witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the Fifth day
of March AD 1887                                           }
