                        Fall Term AD 1897
                       Tuesday December 14th 1897
At a regular Term of the Circuit Court of the Fifth Judicial
Circuit of Florida in and for Alachua County for the Fall
Term A.D. 1897 begun and holden on this the 14th day of
December 1897 at the Court House in the City of Gainesville
Alachua County, Florida, the following proceedings were begun
and held, to wit:
At which was present his Honor W.A. Hocker Judge of the
Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida. L.W. Fennell Sheriff
of Alachua County and H.C. Denton Clerk of this Court.
It appearing to the Court that no Jury was drawn at the last Term of
the Court by the Judge and that the Clerk of the Court, after ten days
notice previously given and after the Sheriff had proclaimed the meet-
ing and its purpose at the Court house door, did, in the presence of the
Sheriff and County Judge in pursuance of law at least fifteen days
before this Term, draw from the Box containing the Jury list the
following named persons to serve as Jurors and venire for said per-
sons was issued and placed in the hands of the Sheriff and return
upon the same was made at 9 1/2 O'clock A.M. this 14th day of 
December 1897 at the opening of this Term of the Court.
Whereupon the Judge of the Court in Open Court, in Open Court,
placed the names of said persons so returned and present and not
excused in a box and drew therefrom the names of the following
persons as Grand Jurors, viz; 1 Orville B. Bailey, 2 J.G. Dampier,
3 G.S. Chamberlain, 4 J.L. Chrisman, 5 F.J. Hagood, 6 James Skinner, 7 Isaac
Carter, 8 F.B. Dell, 9 W.T. Morris, 10 J.B. Jackson, 11 John Sherouse, 12 G.W.
Everett, 13 W.H. Kayton, 14 M.F. Hope, 15 W.H. Holbrook, 16 T.M. Campbell
17 C.E. Haile Jr & 18 J.L. Crawford. And at the same time drew the
following named persons as Petit Jurors, viz; R.Y. Tate A.G.
Colclough, J.M. Turner, W.G. Sanders, L.N. Roberts and Henry Parish,
and afterwards A.J. Feaster and W.L. Ellis two of the Jurors sum-
moned and failed to answer, came into open Court and upon examina-
tion were found qualified and accepted as petit Jurors.
Whereupon the Court ordered the Grand Jury to retire and select
one of their members as foreman and thereafter they returned into open
Court and announced that they had selected Orville B. Bailey as
their foreman. Thereupon the Grand Jurors were duly sworn by the
Clerk as required by law and after the usual charge of the Court they
retired to their room in charge of the Bailiff J.R.W. Grissom who
had also been duly sworn.
