Spring Term A.D. 1882
Thursday June 8th 1882
of the State of Florida and the prisoner ap-
pearing in his own proper person as well as by
his attorneys Messr Taylor & Sanchez & W.W. McCall
And now the prisoner being brought to the Bar
here under the custody of John W. Turner Sheriff
of Alachua County to which Sheriff he is also
likewise comitted and being forth with demanded
how he would acquit himself of the Charges a-
gainst him saith that he is not guilty as the
Indictment alleges and for good and evil he
puts himself upon God and the Country for trial
Whereupon a Jury was called and there came
Jas H. Law M.A. Tolar W.W. Tillman John
McCollum O.W. Sykes and E.W. Smith who
were duly sworn and empanelled to well and
truly try the diference pending between the State
of Florida and the prisoner at the Bar, And
thereafter after hearing the evidence the argument
of Counsel and the charge of the Court retired
to consider of their verdict and thereafter on
the same day returned into open Court and
rendered the following verdict to wit: We the
Jury find the prisoner Guilty E.W. Smith
June th 8/82 foreman
Whereupon the Court adjourned until tomorrow
morning at half past nine oclock
