And now this Cause Coming
on to be heard William A. Hocker States attorney
and Taylor & Sanchez prosecuting in the name
and by the authority of the State of Florida
and the prisoner appearing in his own proper
person as well as by his attorneys Messrs Ashby
& Finly & Hampton. And now the prisoner John
Lee being brought to the bar here under the Cus-
tody of John W. Turner Sheriff of Alachua
County to which sheriff he is also likewise
Committed and now being forthwith demanded
how he would acquit himself of the Charge
against him. Saith that he is not guilty as the
Indictment alleges against him and for good
and evil he puts himself upon God and the
Country for trial Whereupon a Jury was Called
and there Came 1 T.B. Smith, 2 R.C. Davis 3 L. We-
thiem 4 Council Ward. And now the regular Venire
being exhausted on motion of Counsel for the
Defendant the Deputy Sheriff J.B. Cullen was
ordered by the Court to Summon from the body of
the County a sufficient number to fill the Jury
and there came 5 Robert Hawkins 6 H. Pinkoson
7 Essex James 8. J.B. Vanlandingham and now the
list of the names summoned by the Deputy Sheriff
was exhausted whereupon the Court ordered
the Deputy Sheriff to Summons Thirty more persons
from the body of the County to be and
