And now this cause is continued on
the affidavit of the Defendant

And now this Cause came on
to be heard W.A. Hocker State attorney prosecu
ting in the name and by the authority of the
State of Florida and the Prisoner Chapman Haile
above appearing in his own proper person as well
as by his attorneys Mess Goss & Dunson and being forth
with demanded how he would acquit himself saith that
he is not guilty whereupon a Jury was called and
there came 1. M.M. Tillman 2. M.S. Cheves 3. John
Chesser 4. Thomas Kirby 5. N.C. Pettit 6. S.J. Kennard Jr.
who were duly Sworn and empannelled to well and
truly try the Defence pending and thereafter after
hearing the evidence the argument of Counsel
and the Charge of the Court retired to Consider
of their verdict and thereafter on the Same
day returned into open Court and rendered
the following verdict to wit: We the Jury find the
Defendant not guilty N.C. Pettit Foreman -
Whereupon the Court adjourned until ten oclock
tomorrow morning
