And now this Cause
coming on to be heard W.A. Hocker State
Attorney prosecuting in the name and by
the authority of the State of Florida and
the prisoner appearing in his own proper person
as well as by his attorneys Mess Taylor & Sanchez
And now in open Court Comes the prisoner
and enters his plea of not guilty Whereupon
a Jury was called and there came; Benjamin
Rush 2 S.H. Burnett 3. A.J. Shuford 4 J.E.
Haynesworth, 5. Wm Riviere 6. J.A. Cellon
who were duly sworn and empanelled to
well and truly try the difference pending between
the State of Florida and the prisoner at the
Bar, according to the evidence and there-
after after hearing the evidence the argument
of Counsel and the Charge of the Court
retired to consider of their verdict and
thereafter on the same say returned into open
Court and rendered the following verdict to wit:
"We the Jury find the defendant Guilty
May,13,1884. Ben Rush
Foreman
State of Florida } Hocker
vs } Perjury
Emanuel Johnson } S.Y. Finley
}
And now this Cause
Coming on to be heard W.A. Hocker State
attorney prosecuting in the name and by
the authority of the State of Florida and
the prisoner appearing in open Court in
his own proper person as well as by his
attorney S.Y. Finley and the being forthwith
demanded how he would acquit him-
self of the Charge against him saith that
he is not guilty as the Indictment alleges
