   Fall Term  A.D. 1884
       Thursday December 4th 1884
State of Florida }  Hocker
       vs        }  Dealer in Tobacco without License
Wm M. Knox       }
                  And now this cause is Nol Prossed

State of Florida }  Hocker
       vs        }  assault with intent to murder
Thomas Singleton }  Finly
                        And Now this cause
coming on to be heard William A. Hocker State Attorney
prosecuting in the name and by the authority of the State
of Florida and the Prisoner appearing in his own proper
person as well as by his attorney S.Y. Finly and now
the Prisoner being brought to the bar here under the costody
of Samuel C. Tucker Sheriff of Alachua County to
which Sheriff he is also likewise Committed and
being forthwith demanded how he would acquit himself
of the Charge against him Saith that he is not Guilty
as the Indictment alleges and for good and evil
he puts himself upon God and his Country for trial
Whereupon a Jury was called and there came Thomas
M. Kirby Frank Cassells Owen W. Sykes Geo M.
Colman Jno T. Woods and J.J. Burton who were
duly sworn and empanelled to well and truly
try the difference pending between the State of
Florida and the Prisoner at the Bar and thereafter
after hearing of the Evidence the Argument of
Council and the Charge of the Court retired to
consider of their Virdict and thereafter on the same
day returned into open Court and rendered the
following Verdict to wit: We the Jurors find the prisoner
Guilty so say we all

Whereupon the Prisoner was remanded to Jail - and the
defendant by his atty gave notice in open Court for a motion for New tiral
It being necessary to continue and hold this Court for the
next this second week of this term and it appearing
to the Court from the evidence from the Clerk of the
Court that the Box containing the Three hundred selected
Jurors was during the removal of the Records of the Clerks
Office during the recent disastrous fire in the Town 
of Gainesville was accidentally broken open
and the slips of paper upon which the names of the
selected persons were lost and mislaid so that no
