Spring Term A.D. 1881
Monday 25th 1881
At a regular Term of the Circuit Court of the Fifth Judicial Circuit
of Florida in and for the County of Alachua begun and held in the
Court House in the Town of Gainesville Florida the following
proceedings were begun and held to wit: at which were
present His Honor James B. Dawkins Judge of the Fifth Judicial
Circuit of Florida William A. Hocker Esq State Attorney John W.
Turner Sheriff of Alachua County and J.A. Carlisle Clerk of
the Circuit Court of Alachua County
Whereupon the Sheriff having returned the Venire Facias for this
the Spring Term of Our Circuit Court of the Grand Jurors as having
been duly executed by summoning each of the following therein
named persons to wit: 1 Frank Stewart 2 A.H. Morrison 3 John Chesser
4 H.L. Bevill 5 S.H. Benjamin 6 Ambrose Abbott 7 S.M. Thompson 8 R.E.
Johnson 9 James Chesnut 10 J.D. Johnson 11 J.F.P. Johnson 12 D.A.
Moody 13 James Button 14 J.H. Avera 15 John K. Stephens and
that 1 Jack R. Adams 2 James G. Mathews and W.C. Cosby were
not to be found in the County - Whereupon the Court for good
and sufficient cause excused A.H. Morrison and John K. Stephens &
R.E. Johnson from further attendance on this Court.
Whereupon the Court issued the following order to wit:
April 25th 1881
Alachua County
Spring Term 1881
It appearing that there is a deficiency in the number of Grand
Jurors in attendance upon this Term of the Court It is ordered
that Twenty names be drawn in accordance with law to fill up
said deficiency or so many as may be necessary

Whereupon the Clerk of the Circuit Court the
County Judge and the Sheriff drew from the
list of 300 - Twenty good and lawful men in
obedience to the order of the Court
Whereupon the Clerk of the Circuit Court issued
a special venire for the purpose of completing the
panel of the Grand Jury -
Whereupon J.D. Johnson, S.H. Benjamin, James
Button who had duly summoned to appear and
to serve as grand Jurors failed to answer
Whereupon the Court ordered Scire Facias to
be issued against J.D. Johnson S.H. Benjamin
