Spring Term A.D. 1885
Tuesday May 12th 1885
Court in his own proper person as well as by his Attorney
F.E. Hughes and now the prisoner being forthwith demanded
how he would acquit himself of the Charge against him
Saith that he is not guilty as the Indictment alleges
against him and for good and evil he puts himself upon
God and the Country for trial whereupon a Jury was called
and there came J.D. George J.F. Futch, J.B. Dill, Simeon
Fagan, W.B. Hodgson L.W. Fennell who were duly Sworn
and empanelled to well and truly try the difference
pending and thereafter after hearing the evidence the
argument of Counsel and the Charge of the Court
retired to consider of their verdict and thereafter on
the Same day returned into open Court and rendered
the following verdict to wit: We the Jury find the
Defendant Guilty of an aggrivated assault so
say we all J.B. Dill Foreman
State of Florida } Hocker
No 18 vs } Assault with intent to Murder -
William Canty } J.O. Cosby
} And now this Cause Coming
on to be heard W.A. Hocker State attorney prosecuting
in the name and by the authority of the State of
Florida and the prisoner appearing in open Court
in his own proper person as well as by his attorney
J.O. Cosby and now the prisoner being forthwith
demanded how he would acquit himself of the
Charge against him Saith that he is not guilty
as the Indictment alleges against him and for
good and evil he puts himself upon God and
the Country for trial whereupon a Jury was called and
there came J.F. Futch, J.B. Dill, Simeon Fagan
W.H.H. Holdridge, W.B. Hodgson, E.K. Fagan who
were duly Sworn and empanelled to well and truly
try the difference pending and thereafter after hearing
the evidence the argument of Counsel and the Charge
of the Court retired to Consider of their verdict and
thereafter on the Same day returned into open Court
and rendered the following verdict to wit:
We the Jury find the Defendant Guilty
