Wednesday December 9th 1885
and thereafter on the Same day returned into open
Court and rendered the following verdict to wit
We the Jury find the Prisoner Guilty J.M. Dell
Foreman
State of Florida }
vs } Sentence
John Houston }
And now the prisoner John
Houston being in open Court for Sentence
was demanded if he had any thing to say why
Sentence should not be passed on him saith
nothing, Whereupon the Court Sentenced the
prisoner John Houston to confinement in
the States Prison at hard labor for the space
of Three (3) years
State of Florida }
vs } Murder
John Austen }
} And now this Cause is Continued
on motion of the Defendant
State of Florida }
vs } Breaking and entering a building
William Williams } with intent to commit a misdemeanor
And now this Cause coming
on to be heard W.A. Hocker State attorney prosecuting
in the name and by the authority of the State of
Florida and the prisoner appearing in open Court
in his own proper person as well as by his attorney
J.A. Cone as now the prisoner being demanded how
he would acquit himself of the Charge against
him saith that he is not guilty as the Indictment
against him alleges Whereupon a Jury was called
and there came: L.C. Ellis, S.J. Barnett M.M. May
Robert Kite - D.R. Fletcher R.M. Davis who were duly
Sworn and empanelled to well and truly try the dif-
ference pending and thereafter after hearing the evidence
the argument of Counsel and the Charge of the
Court retired to consider of their verdict and
thereafter on the Same day returned into open
Court and rendered the following verdict to wit:
We the Jury find the prisoner Guilty So Say we
