And now this Cause came
on to be heard William H. Wigg State attorney
prosecuting in the name and by the authority
of the State of Florida and the prisoner being
in open Court in his own proper person as well
as by his attys Mess Taylor & Carter, and the pris-
oner being brought to the bar under the Custody of
Samuel H. Wienges Sheriff of Alachua County to which
Sheriff he is also likewise committed and being forth-
with demanded how he would acquit himself
of the Charge against him saith that he is not
guilty as the Indictment alleges against him
and for good and evil he puts himself upon God
and the Country for trial whereupon a Jury was
called and there came Charles L. Slaughter
And now the Venire being exhausted the
Court ordered the Clerk of this Court to
issue a Special Venire Facias for Fifty good
and lawful men directed to the Sheriff of
Alachua County Commanding him to Summon
Fifty good and lawful men from the body of
the County at Large returnable on Tuesday Dec-
ember 20th A.D. 1887 at the hour of Nine oclock
of the forenoon of said day
Whereupon the Clerk having issued the
Special Venire Facias as by this Court
directed
