Spring Term AD 1888
Tuesday May 8th 1888
At a regular
Term of the Circuit Court of the Fifth Judicial
Circuit of Florida in and for the County of
Alachua for the Spring Term A.D. 1888 begun
and holden at the Court House in the City of
Gainesville in the County of Alachua the
following proceedings were begun and held
to wit:
At which was present his Honor J.J. Finley
Judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida
William H. Wigg States attorney for the Fifth
Judicial Circuit of Florida, Samuel H. Wienges
Sheriff of Alachua County and J.A. Carlisle
Clerk of this Court
Whereupon the Court is opened with prayer
by the Rev. F.B. Dunham.
Whereupon the Sheriff Samuel H. Wienges now
calles the Venire for the Grand Jury and
there came 1 J.D. Cromwell 2 James Doig -
3 Wiley Hines 4. A.G. Colclough 5. Thos McCredie
6 L.A. Jerningan 7. E.J. Griffin 8. F.A. Rivers 9. J.V.
Murch 10 F.V. Seagle 11 Geo Harris 12 J.R. Faircloth
13 John Slaughter 14 J.W. Burnett Jr. 15 S.W. Vaughn
Whereupon
the Court for good Cause shown excused
J.D. Cromwell from further attendance upon the
Court.
Whereupon the Court issued the following order
to wit
It appearing to the Court that there is a
deficiency of four persons to fill the panel
of the Grand Jury at this term, It is therefore
ordered that a writ of Venire Facias be issued out
of this Court directed to the Sheriff of Alachua
County requiring him to Summon Four (4) persons duly
qualified to Serve as Grand Jurors for this term of
our Circuit Court Instanter
Done and ordered in open Court this May 8th 1888
Whereupon
the Clerk of this Court having issued
the Venire Facias as by the order of this
Court required comes the Sheriff of Alachua
County Samuel H. Wienges and makes return
