And now this Cause came
on to be heard William H. Wigg State attorney
prosecuting in the name and by the authority
of the State of Florida and the prisoner ap-
pearing in open Court in his proper person
as well as by his atty E.P. Axtell Esq was
demanded how he would acquit himself
of the Charge against him saith that he is
not guilty as the Indictment alleges against
him and for good and evil he puts him-
self upon God and the Country for trial
Whereupon a Jury was called and there
came J.H. Waters T.B. Smith H. Levy S.V.
Zetrouer W.W. Carter Samuel Abbott who
were duly sworn and empanelled to well and
truly try the difference pending between the State
of Florida and the prisoner at the Bar ac-
cording to the evidence and thereafter after
hearing the evidence and the Charge of the
Court retired to consider of their verdict and
and on the same day returned into open Court
and rendered the following verdict to wit:-
We the Jury find the Prisoner Guilty
Samuel Abbott
Foremon of Jury -
State of Florida }
vs } Sentence
Romeo Jones }
And now the prisoner being
in open Court for sentence was demanded
if he had anything to say why sentence
should not be passed upon him saith
nothing Whereupon the Court sentenced the
prisoner to confinement in the States
prison at hard labor for the space of
Five years
