Thursday December 1st 1881
And now this cause coming on to be heard W.A.
Hocker States attorney prosecuting in the name
and by the authority of the S tate of Florida, and
the prisoner appearing in his own proper person as
well as by his attorney W.W. Hampton and now the
prisoner being brought to the Bar here under the
custody of John W. Turner Sheriff of Alachua County
to which sheriff he is also likewise committed and
being forthwith demanded how he would acquit
himself of the Charge against him Saith that he
is not guilty as the Indictment alleges against him
and for good and evil he puts himself upon God and
the Country for trial Whereupon a Jury was Called
and there came, Albert Strickland, J.M. Endel, E.W.
Smith, Jno Burnett Geo Gatlin H.M. Tillis who
were duly sworn and empanelled to well and truly
try the difference pending between the State of
Florida and the prisoner at the Bar according to
the evidence and thereafter after hearing the evidence
retired to consider of their verdict and thereafter
on the same day returned into open Court and
rendered the following verdict to wit: We the Jury
find the prisoner Guilty W.A. Strickland

And now this Cause is Continued
Whereupon the Court adjourned until tomorrow
morning until ten oclock
