Thursday December 8th 1881 -
tenced the prisoner Moses Bush to hard labor in
the States Prison for the space of one year.
Whereupon the Court took a Recess.
On motion of O.A. Myers his Honor James B. Dawkins
was called to the chair.
On motion the Chair appointed O.A. Myers
W.A. Hocker and B.H. Thrasher as a committee
to report memorials on the Death of E.M. Hampton
late member of this Bar.
Whereupon the Committee on Memorial presented the
following
To the Chairman and Members of the
Gainesville Bar:
The Committee of your honorable
body appointed to present a suitable token and
expression of Regard for our deceased brother Edwin
Marcy Hampton who died in this City on the 5th day
of November 1881 aged Twenty eight years Seven
months and ten days respectfully submit the follow-
ing:
In the death of this young and gifted Member of
our Bar we feel that we have not only met with a
professional loss but a personal bereavement. Gifted
with a mind of active acquisitive forces directed by a
disseminating judgment, our late brother was rapidly
advancing to mastery of the principles and practice
of the profession he had Chosen for his field of en-
deavor and usefulness. By endowment of literary taste
liberal Culture laudable ambition well poised Character
engaging address and the graces of eloquence he was
qualified and drawn out to take a leading part with the
pen and in debate, in discussing the current topics
and public questions of the day. His short but bril-
liant career betokened an early attainment of marked
eminence in the profession and prominent position
in the State of his adoption, to the aid of the good
government and material development of which he
devoted himself with untiring zeal. But the Sun
burst of promise was darkened and then eclipsed
by the slow=moving shadow of death. By wasting dis-
ease he was stricken down in the prime of manhood |
