thereof, and have agreed to the appointment of Mrs E.R. Cooper as

It appearing to the Court that there is a necessity for the
appointment of a stenographer in the above case and
Counsel having agreed upon Mrs E.R. Cooper as appears from
the foregoing petition, it is ordered that Mrs. E.R. Cooper be
and she is hereby appointed stenographer to take the testimony
in said cause

Whereupon Mrs E.A. Cooper was duly sworn as such
stenographer by the Clerk of this Court.
Thereupon by order of the court E.A. Pinnell Esquire
was duly sworn in as Assistant State Attorney by the Clerk of this
Court

And now on this day this cause came on
to be heard Syd L. Carter State Attorney for the fifth Judicial Circuit
of Florida prosecuting in the name and by authority of the state of
Florida and the prisoner Elias Griffin being in open Court in
his proper person as well as by his attorney J.A. Williams Esquire
And now the prisoner Elias Griffins brought to the bar herein
under the custody of L.W. Fennell sheriff of Alachua County
to which sheriff he is likewise committed was demanded
how he would acquit himself of the charge against him
saith that he is not guilty of the charge as alleged in the
indictment against him and for good and evil puts himself
upon God and the country for trial
Whereupon a jury was called, and there came
D.A. Dunnaway J.W. Harris Zell Sanders, J.H. Avera Jr
David Roe, J.F. Brush W.E. Brown H.R. Stokes S.D. Tillman
Geo M. Desha A.A. McRae and J.A. Stephens who were duly
empanelled and sworn to well and truly try and true
deliverance make between the State of Florida and the
prisoner at the bar, whom you shall have in charge
according to the evidence, so help you God
