Now this cause coming on to be heard Syd L. Carter State Attorney
prosecuting in the name and by authority of the state of Florida
and the prisoner William J. Knight being Open Court
in his proper person was arraigned, and upon his
arraignment pleaded not guilty, and puts himself
upon God and his Country for trial. Whereupon a Jury
was called, and there came H.B. Brooker J.A. McDonald
T.A. Sewell, and J.H. Goss, and now the regular panel of the Jury
being exhausted by reason of challenge and otherwise, the
Court ordered the sheriff to summon talesmen from the by-
standers to complete the panel, and there came Albert Endel
who was accepted and The panel of the Jury still being incomplete
the Court ordered the sheriff to summon ten men from the
body of the County at Large, from which to complete the
panel in this cause returnable to 8:30 oclock am
tomorrow morning May 19th 1900. Whereupon the Court
adjourned until tomorrow morning at 8:30 am. May 19th 1900.

Court met at 8:30 O'clock am pursuant to adjournment, this

                 And now this cause coming on to be further
heard, Syd L. Carter states Attorney prosecuting in the name
and by authority of the State of Florida, and the prisoner
William J. Knight being in open Court, in his proper
person, as well as by his Attorney B.A. Thrasher, Esquire,
as also the five Jurors, who were called, and accepted on
yesterday, to wit: H.B. Brooker, J.A. McDonald, T.A. Sewell J.H. Goss
and Albert Endel, the hearing of this cause was resumed.
Thereupon L.W. Fennell Sheriff, made his return of the ten persons
summoned by order of the Court to complete the panel of
    Jury of this
the^cause, and now the names of said persons being
called, there came John T. Woods who was examined and
