Election Certificate
State of Florida } S.S. We the Subscribers and Judge of
Alachua County } Probates for the County aforesaid and
inhabitants of said County having the qualifications of voters
therein, and selected by said Judge of Probates to assist him in
Canvassing and Counting the votes given for each office and
for the several persons for each office as shown by the returns
filed in the Office of said Judge of Probate at an election
held at the several precincts in said County on Monday
the 11th day of October A.D. 1849 ---
After having Carefully Canvassed and counted the
votes, hereby Certify that the following is a true return of the votes
given at said election Viz.
The whole number of votes given for the Office of Senator
from the (15th) Senatorial District is two hundred and thirty
five, and of those M.S. Perry received One hundred and
thirty two (132) votes, and L.C. Gaines received one hundred and
three votes (103) and the whole number of votes given for the
Office of Sheriff is two hundred and twenty one (221) votes
and of these votes Charles L. Wilson received one hundred and
twenty nine (129) votes and Joel B. Smith received Ninety
two (92) votes, and the whole number of votes given for the
Office of Circuit Court Clerk for the Counties of Alachua
and Levy is ninety five votes, and of these votes Samuel W.
Burnett received (95) ninety five votes, And the whole number
of Votes given for the Office of County Commissioners is (686)
Six hundred and eighty six votes, And of these votes John B.
Standley received (94) ninety four votes, And George L.
Brown received (90) ninety votes, Samuel B. Colding received
(86) votes, John J. Sanchez received (73) seventy
three votes, David Mizele received (73) seventy three votes --
John Little received (61) sixty one votes, William
J. Turner received (61) sixty one votes, Samuel Geiger
received (36) thirty six votes, Josiah Seckinger received
(31) thirty one votes, John M.Geiger received (24)
twenty four votes, J. Prevatt received (27) twenty
seven votes, James Bevil received (10) ten votes, Martin
Geiger received (10) votes, Nathaniel Jones received
(10) ten votes, and the whole number of votes given |
