Plan of a jail to be erected in the town
of Gainesville, size of Building 20 by 24 -
two storys high, the body of the house to be of
hewn logs Ten inches square, the first story to be ten
feet in the clear and built double with a space
of twelve inches between the walls, said space
to be filled with poles set on end the floor first
to be laid with flint rock of not less than one
foot in diameter, then over that timber of the
same dimensions as the wall, and upon that
floor of square timber, another floor of two inch
thick Plank firmly spiked, the walls to be covered with
two inch plank also firmly spiked on -- this room
to have three windows, with double gratings of
wrought iron the sealing of this room to be of the
same sized timber as the walls -- the second
story to be 8 feet in the clear the walls to be single
of ten inch Timber, the floor of two inch plank --
the walls lined with two inch plank this room to
have three windows with grated with wrought iron, doors are
to be made of the best material and in the most substa
ntial manner a partition four feet wide to run across
the upper story, timber to be ten inches square and to be
sealed with two inch plank on the sides ends and
top - the house to be weatherboarded, with platform
stairs &c on the end, all to be done in a neat
and substantial manner, the whole to be under
the supervision of Commissioners appointed by the
Court, building to be completed by the
first mondYin December or contractor forfeit
five dollars per day for each day over - --
