vs } Playing and betting at cards

On this day came as well the Solicitor of the State
of Florida, John P. Sanderson Esqr who prosecutes the pleas of the
State in this behalf, and the defendant in person, and the said de-
fendant plead guilty, Thereupon a Jury was empanneled to
assess the fine, consisting of A. Hague, Green Cason, James
Pendarvis, John Odum, John Brooker, Joseph G. Bell, Chas.
C. Stewart, Wm D. Clark, Wm Gibbons, S.N. Caston, George
Sharp, and John K. Stephens, and the said Jury assessed
a fine of fifty cents against the said defendant, The defen-
-dant came into Court and consented that the verdict of the
Jury be so altered that it read "We fine the defendant Ten
dollars, thereupon it is considered and adjudged by the
Court that the said defendant pay to the State of Florida
a fine of ten dollars together with the costs of their prose-
=cution
John T. Prevatt, and John B. Standley appeared in open Court
and acknowledged themselves to owe and stand indebted to the
State of Florida in manner following that is to say, the said John
T. Prevatt in the Sum of Fifteen hundred dollars, and the said
John B. Standley in the Sum of Fifteen hundred dollars, to be levied
of their respective goods and chattels, Slaves, lands and tenements
if default be made in the following conditions, that is to say if
the said John T. Prevatt shall be and appear at the next
Term of this Court to answer to an Indictment for playing and
betting at cards, and shall not thence depart without leave,
then this obligation to be null and void, else to remain in full
force and virtue
Edward S. Gunnell and John B. Standley appeared in open Court and
acknowledged themselves to owe and stand indebted to the State of Florida, in
the manner following that is to Say, the said Edward S. Gunnell in the sum
of Fifteen hundred dollars, and the said John B. Standley in the sum of fifteen
hundred dollars to be levied of their respective goods and chattels, lands and tene=
ments if default be made in the following condition, that is to say, if the said Edward
S. Gunnell shall be and appear at the next term of this Court to answer to an
Indictment for playing and betting at cards, and shall not thence
depart without leave of the Court, then this obligation to be null
and void, else to remain in full force virtue and effect |
