Friday May 16th 1856

In the matter of }
James J. Kennard }  Alien
               And now on this day came James
            late of the Kingdom of Great Britain 
J. Kennard^above named^and prayed the
Court to be admitted a citizen of the United
States:  And thereupon the said James J.
Kennard, having, pursuant to the directions
and requisitions of the several acts of Congress
in relation thereto, produced to the Court such
evidence, made such declaration and renunc-
iation and taken such oath as are by the
said acts required: thereupon It was or-
dered by the Court that the said James
J. Kennard be admitted to be a citizen
of the United States of America

                    And now on this day came
the plaintiff by his attorney, and on motion
It is ordered by the Court that the plaintiff
do have his judgment by default against
the defendant, with stay of execution until
the next term of the Court, and that the Clerk
do assess the damages Whereupon the Clerk hav-
ing assessed the damages at Five hundred and
ninety five dollars and ninety six cents, It is
further ordered considered and adjudged by
the Court that the said plaintiff do have and
recover of and from the said defendant the
said Sum of Five hundred and ninety five
Dollars and 96/100 for his damages together
with his costs in this behalf expended taxed
at two Dollars and eighty cents, and the
defendant in mercy &c
