The following persons summoned as Jurors as
aforesaid, good and lawful jurors, were drawn
according to law to serve as Grand Jurors for
the present Term - To wit:

who being tried and elected retired under the
direction of the Court to select their Foreman, thereafter
and upon the same day returned into Court and reported
that they had selected Fernando A. Underwood, he was
duly approved and appointed by the Court, as
Foreman of the Grand Jury for the present Term
Whereupon the said Fernando A. Underwood
was duly sworn, the usual oath being administered
Wherein, as were his fellows, - who having received the
charge of the Court, retired to their room to deliberate upon
such matters as may be presented to then or laid
before them.
Nicholas J. Berry was duly sworn as Bailiff of
the Grand Jury -
In the Matter of the } It appearing that the said Simon
State of Florida } a Slave was committed to the Jail of
vs } Marion County for safe Keeping by
Simon a Slave } a Magistrate of Alachua County for
an assault upon a white person with intent to Kill
the offence being Committed in Alachua County on
motion of James B. Dawkins Solicitor it is ordered that
Jailor of Marion County do deliver over to said Shff
of Alachua County or his deputy the said Slave Simon,
for the purpose of being safely transferred to this Court for
trial and that the said Sheriff of Alachua County do retain
him in custody until the futher order of this Court.
