Gainesville Fla April 25th 1878
The Board of County Commissioners met
pursuant to adjournment of yesterday
at which was present, James Chesnut Presi
dent, Henry McIntyre, J.D. Matheson and
W.W. Scott.

Ordered that the Bid of W.J. Lawton for
the Sum of Sixteen Thousand dollars in county warrants for
Building a County Jail be accepted
and that the Board enter into Contract
with him for the erection and building of
the Same in accordance with the Plans and
Specifications prepared and submitted by George
Hoover Architect with cells and all the building
completed according to the Said Plans and Specifica-
tions

Ordered that George Hoover be employed as
Architect and Superintendent of the Building of the County
Jail and that he receive for his Services five
percent of the sum of Sixteen thousand dollars
the amount to be paid for the Building of
Said Jail. the Same to be paid in County warrants
total Sum to be paid him is Eight Hundred dol-
lars. one half to paid as Soon the Contract is
made for the Building of the Same the other
half when the Building is Completed;

     Board met pursuant to Call of the
President at which was present James
Chesnut, A.E. Acee and J.D. Matheson

Ordered that the agreement as Signed by W.J.
Lawton and James Chesnut President of the
Board of County Commissioners for Building a
Jail for Alachua County be appointed which is
as follows to wit:
